Laboratory
Project description:
The WSSC Consolidated Laboratory has central, chilled water air handling units delivering conditioned 100% outside air to the building. The laboratory maintains safety and conserves energy by using a variable air volume (VAV) system. Venturi air valves control both supply and exhaust air flows to chemical fume hoods and rooms maintaining safe user limits and proper pressurization. A central Strobic high plume exhaust fan set safely dilutes and discharges spent laboratory air. Integration of the laboratory controls and building controls is done through a Cylon Controls facility automation system using the process industry standard Modbus open protocol.
Background:
The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission was founded in 1918 to provide safe reliable water and return clean water to the environment in a financially responsible manner. It is among the 10 largest water and wastewater facilities in the country. The WSSC performs 600,000 tests on water and wastewater per year.
